Packing and De-cluttering

Now that I’ve started packing I’m noticing that I’m a packrat. I keep a lot of things I don’t need because “What if I may need it?” I’m going to apply the same principles in packing for my move that I did in organizing my workspace.

How have you cut your clutter while moving?

A bit, but not enough by far.

I still have unpacked boxes which I packed about five years ago when I moved into this place.

Well I hate moving with a passion, so I throw out a lot of things I don’t feel I need. Also I give away stuff. However there is a rule in life where, as you said, the minute I throw something out, I end up needing what ever it was the next day.

moving is when i throw a lot of my stuff out. I’ve realised i only use 30% of the stuff i have- the rest is just sitting there in case i need it.
do a “garage sale”, otherwise bin it.

I feel the same way. I keep things that will be useful some day. My bike has been unused for five years until I needed it for my move to Gainesville.

Also, before moving to Gainesville I spent more time de-cluttering and throwing shit away than packing.

a few months before the move i start purging the place of anything i don’t really need.
it still is not enough - i end up moving with all sorts of junk; i came to phoenix AZ with a snowshovel.
