Shooting in the woods (Pics and Videos)

Yesterday Sandro, I, and two friends went out to Darrington (BFE) to shoot some shit up. We had two Glock 22’s (.40), a Sig 45, .38 snubby, my Springfield .45, two shotguns, and an AR-15. Of course, we took some photos and video. All taken with the T-Mobile Wing of course.

"Monday" morning checklist

Let’s see, did I get everything done this weekend so I can go back to work tonight without anything nagging me?

Laundry
Research for Search and Seizure project
Write five page Search and Seizure project
Iron uniforms
Clean bedroom
Wash car (No need! It hasn’t rained in a week now!)

Minor and backend changes

I’ve been having a major issue with spam filling up my comments lately. Every time my Outlook Mobile inbox synchronized I would get up to ten spam comments (and I have it set to sync every 30 minutes). That’s up to 480 spam comments a day. Not all of them got past the Wordpress spam filter which requires the Admin to approve comments, but several of them did. I looked into various captcha plugins and most of them would have taken up too much time. I wanted something that I could upload, activate, and that’s it. SpamBam takes an alternate approach, and instead of requiring a poster to enter in a string of text from an image file, it delays the ability to post repeat comments. No, it’s not perfect, as one post can be posted, but so far Wordpress has caught those.

I also fixed the contact form which evidently has not been working on the Contact page. Had I known about this sooner it would have been fixed. (That’s a hint to all of you fuckers who saw it wasn’t up and didn’t e-mail me about it!)

Week in review (with pictures too!)

Well, I was counting on having a busy Fourth of July shift, but it was so-so. I did have a few good things though. Anyway, here are some photos I’ve taken lately between my (*sniff*) old T-Mobile Dash and my T-Mobile Wing.

I know, fucking precious, eh?

Evidently I’m cute when I’m putting my contacts in.

You’d think a bigger vehicle would have more room. It doesn’t.

Not impressed.

And that’s all for now. BTW, if you are running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 on a 320 x 240 device and hate the stock T-Mobile or HTC dialpad, use this one from PaulyA.com.

Close that fucking book already!

Well, the other day I was called into work to have a meeting about the situation a few months ago. I won’t go into detail about it in a public post, but it wasn’t good and included many bullshit allegations against me which have continued through the voices of one (two counting the lovestruck lackey) even up until a few weeks ago. We set the issue to “Dead” and went on, but mouths kept going and things evolved into other issues, other allegations which had no involvement in the original situation. There have been several attempts to close the book on this thing, but it kept getting brought up, other things were accused, and all of them determined to be the last straws that people felt they needed to grasp onto.

Anyway, I met with the person who was looking over all of the documentation and deciding disciplinary action. To make a long story short (it was a 4.5 hour meeting…on my day off at that) I was told every small policy–relating to the situation or not–that I have broken since I have been promoted to a supervisory position. Many were issues which are part of the “office culture” if you will, things that evolve and develop as time goes on finding that following the “pick your battles” philosophy goes are small taters. For example, technically at the end of our shift we are to clear out belongings from our patrol car to leave a vehicle ready to go for the next officer. I work several days per week in the same car as the only driver, so I usually leave my duty bag and seat organizer on the passenger seat. While this was in no way related to the investigation into the allegations, it was brought up.

As the meeting went on, I noticed a printed copy of several weeks worth of my blog in the file. I was itching for someone to bring something up about it because I have never used my employer’s name, other officer’s names, I always blur out my badge and vehicle decals in my photos, and have ever violated anyone’s privacy surrounding any incidents I have been involved in. Once the person reached that section in the file she told me that there were several things which originally caught her eye in my blog, but after re-reading it, looking at policy, and a little something called the First Amendment, that nothing would be done about that. She told me that a few entries included references to people who believed it was them and complained about it. Whether or not I was speaking about them, or they just have a guilty conscience, that’s not my problem and she agreed. Overall, as far as jakeslife.net goes, I don’t need to do anything differently (which I already knew). She even commended me as to how much I was already aware of the legality of blogging and the steps I had taken to protect privacy even before this issue came up.

All in all, it was a beneficial conversation on some levels, and bullshit on others. But…I know where she was coming from. She let me air my frustrations about the impact that these mouths have had on my work environment, causing it to be hostile according to EEOC standards, and my personal feelings about what went on. I won’t go into what was said after the meeting outside of the building, or the other things in the works, but all-in-all it was a positive experience in itself. And I got one more reader to my site! :-D

T-Mobile Wing, Week 1

Today marks my first week with the T-Mobile Wing. Because the T-Mobile Dash (the smartphone I gave up in order to pack the Wing) was the best phone I have ever carried, the Wing had a lot to stand up too. The Dash had the best one-handed operation, which is great while you’re walking, driving, or otherwise occupied. Changing to the touch screen on the Wing sounded a bit more involved, having to tap-tap-tap in order to do something that took a few button presses on the Dash, but overall I’m pleased with the Wing.

Spb Mobile Shell helps to make the Today screen better for me, mainly with the Photo Speed Dial function. I tried to make it so that I can get to my most useful functions (mainly those I call the most often, the programs I use often, and those I need to get to quickly while driving).

All in all, I’m happy with the change. Spb only made a few Smartphone apps so never really used any of their programs until now. Spb Insight, Spb Finance, and Spb Mobile Shell are all awesome programs. The only issues I have with it so far is not being able to wait more than a week to drop my new phone and an occasional soft reset because it is “out of memory” even though no programs are running.
