Almost there (there being working out)

Well, I am almost done with college. For the last few years I have worked full time and done college coursework full time. In between assignments and shifts I try to sleep, but it doesn’t always work that way. I will finally be able to free up almost my entire weekends (I usually save my projects for my weekend and spend two of my three days doing that). Having this sort of time free and fitness goals, one could only surmise that I need to get my fat ass going.

Pushups, sit-ups, crunches, weight training, stretching are all no problem. I have a full weight set (adjustable incline bench with pulldown) sitting in the garage collecting dust that I bought last Summer and have touched twice since then–once to actually move the bench itself while I was cleaning. Anyway, it’s the cardio. Running is obviously the best choice for me, but I have a few concerns.

First, I would have to actually drive somewhere to do it. My neighborhood isn’t very well suited for running. Second, cardio to me (well, most working out, really) is not something I want to be observed doing. It would be as if someone were in the bathroom with me watching me punch a grumpy…it just feels icky, I’m a mess afterwards, and I want to be alone while doing it. Third, my firearm isn’t well suited to be carried while running recreationally. It’s a duty model .45 ACP (Springfield XD to be exact), and not concealable while in workout attire. It holds 14 rounds (13+1), which is awesome when I’m at work, but not when I’m not. Being probable that I will be running at night a firearm isn’t something I really want to be without. Personal preference I guess.

Essay Review

Well, I felt bad for not starting on this essay sooner. It’s for my Criminal Justice Capstone class and is about paramilitary structure used by modern police agencies and how it contributes to community oriented policing. Yeah, yeah…I know.

Anyway, here is a draft in Word format. You can disregard the reference notes, those are so I remember which text or web site I found the information.

Undercroft–Best Pocket PC RPG

I wouldn’t say that I’m a “die hard” RPG fan, but I do enjoy a good game that I can engross myself in for a bit. Often those are RPG’s because they actually take some thought. Since I do a lot on Windows Mobile now I looked for one for a while. When I had my T-Mobile Dash, it was nearly impossibly to find one. They just don’t seem to make solid RPG’s for Windows Mobile Standard, but Professional edition has a few goodies. Undercroft is the best I’ve found so far. It has good graphics, gameplay, leveling system (although a bit slow, especially for Priests and Assassins), and plenty of areas to explore. There are only five major areas of the game, but each area has quite a lot of space in it to perform the multiple quests you’re given if you activate them.

Was this the man you saw?

Great looking program for Windows Mobile devices.

Speed up Outlook 2007

If you are an Outlook 2007 user you know what I’m talking about. I rarely open Outlook on my laptop (most of my e-mails are sent from Outlook Mobile simply due to the fact that I rarely get e-mail that I need to respond to, and when I do it’s pretty short). If it was quicker I may just be tempted to though. I tried the following tip from PimpYourWork.com and it works great so far. I noticed the speed immediately improve.

Finally a real tip to speed up Outlook 2007!

2:37

I ran across a review online for 2:37 today.

Don’t play this YouTube video unless you want a spoiler.

Server was down

Evidently my hosting outfit had some issues this afternoon and my server was down for a little over an hour. It’s back up now obviously.

Another week in paradise, added blogs

Well, I’m trying to get in gear to get ready for my Monday. It’s such a chore: Shaving the three days from my face, ironing my shirts, cleaning my gun (every other week), making my lunch, and brushing off the fast food from my duty belt because I don’t make lunch the rest of my weeks. Hrmph.

I also added a few blogs to my blogrollorinodolce:

Check them out bitches.

Here’s a few other things to chomp on while I’m working.

Jake v. Wasps 390 U.S. 42

I am not sure if I mentioned this in an earlier posting about my Thunderbird, but in the time that it had been parked after I bought my Scion some wasps had made a nest inside the door. It wasn’t inside the car itself, but when you open the door there is a wasp’s nest inside, above the joint that connects the door to the frame. Well last night a friend and I grabbed the can of wasp killer and armed with a few beers in our system entered into battle.

The compulsory flipping off of the wasps as they die slow deaths by foam.

It’s a bit hard to see, but one was a survivor. He’s on the lower, right edge of the nest. He was quickly and severely dealt with.
