Call for comments: What motivates you?
Specifically, and along the lines of my last post, when it comes to physical fitness.
What gets you out of bed and on the floor doing pushups? Home from work tired and hitting the gym? Wake up on a lazy Saturday and hit the pavement running?
What do you listen to when you run? When you lift? Realizing that many people who read my blog are gay (geez, take a look at my blogroll, would ya?), and that my taste in music is different than most of the gays, I’m trying to keep an open mind. If I find something that keeps me going, I’ll give credit where credit is due.
When you reach burnout, that is, your lungs feel like they are collapsing, your side like it has split open and internal organs are falling out, your muscles feel like they have hung up their “Out to lunch” sign and they’re just quitting, what keeps you going that extra time? I know the mind set (on paper) but I want to know since it’s different for everyone.
I think I would probably give a testicle to look like this guy tomorrow when I wake up. Definitely a toe or two, but maybe a testicle.

I listen to Linkin Park. I like someone screaming in my ears. It works and also I think seeing other guys who look damn good pushes me as well.
I’m listen to techno/dance/pop while working out and it suits me well. The lyrics and beats keep me focusing on what all I have left to do or how many more reps I have.
there’s two other ways I’ve been keeping myself motivated. I “secretly” have a pic/video of a guy that I would love to look like. And here’s the catch, it’s a perfectly believable goal for me. The guy I picked isn’t a full blown model A&F type, but with a figure I could definitely reach.
The second thing that’s really helped me is having someone else keep me in check that I’m keeping to my workouts. Or at least the theory that if I miss a workout I have someone to hold me responsible for it. And that has been the biggest help for me.
He’s another blogger, Jay from jay gay=me. The original posting is .
There’s also a training calendar we’ve been updating as we work out. You’ll see it on the right near his profile. If we notice either of us slacking we can give a nudge to the other.
Our goals are for september but I’m sure you could join in if you wanted. Anyways, that’s it for
Great blog btw! Just came across it!
Yeah, rereading my comment I noticed I didn’t put “here” in for the link to the original post. The “.” has the addy though so, sorry >
Not that it counts at the moment (because I’m not into a habit of working out.) but part of what was the best motivation for me is that I put working out on my schedule when I was still in college. Between class x and z I had time scheduled in to work out. To make sure I did it I always tried to run by the gym before hand and pick a time for the machine, so I’d be 100% sure to get my rear there in time..
Now adays, I’m working the “temp job” that involves moving lots of boxes and staying active.. I’ve lost 30 pounds since I started working it.. (although I’m in need of more muscle tone still…)
