USB travel light (red LED) in the car

Working at night has its quirks. You have to have the right kind of light for the laptop. Up until this week I had a standard soft white light that rested at the top of the screen facing the keyboard but recently bought a red snake-like LED light. Now my car seems dark! But it’s a lot easier on the eyes.

The infectious personality test

Yeah, I don’t know about this.

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We’re turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we’ve got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted. As for specific personality traits, you are adventurous (56%).
Stereotypes
White Trash 73%
Punk Rock 53%
Young Professional 50%

Life Experience
Sex 33%
Substances 35%
Travel 15%
Politics
Your political views would best be described as Libertarian, whom you agree with around 41% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Lower Middle Class. You make more than 70% of those who have taken this test, and 31% less than the U.S. average.
If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
By the way, your hottness rank is 55%, hotter than 29% of other test takers.

Proactive Problem Solving for Tomorrow’s Gang Youth

The last few days have been hectic, to say the least. I also have one more project for each class due, then I’m done. Absolutely, positively, fuckin’ done.

To clue you in on what all the fuss was about, I posted my latest paper on proactive solutions to gang youth membership at my Scribd account here.

My newfound love of Google Reader & Box.net

Thanks to Jay and Ste–and their online gay agenda–I have been a Google Reader convert for the past week now. I started using RSS Bandit but found it to be bloated, then moved to Snarfer where I was happy. My only gripe was that I read feeds from my home and from my T-Mobile Wing. I would read feeds when I am bored at work, then come home and have the same ones to sort through again from my laptop. I decided to try out Google Reader and found the mobile version to be awesome: It loads fast, since it’s Google you can tag anything, and it helps keep things fresh.

I opened a Box.net account months ago but never really used it. I always have my web hosting server to store files on so never really thought I needed a typical web storage service. I also have a 350 GB external firewire drive so that was even less of a reason for me. Well, with this recent failing of the hard drive fiasco I have learned my lesson. What’s nice is that Box.net has a great customizable widget for posting on your web site to share certain files as well as a great mobile version. Also a great way to transfer files between devices if you do not have the proper cables or Bluetooth connections.

Why i love my boyfriend

There are a lot of reasons why I love my boyfriend: He’s smart, a business man, he’s sweet, caring, and even though I’m 6′4” and older, and he’s 5′2” and younger, he takes care of me sometimes. Oh, and he’s adorable, cute, hot, whatever you want to say.

When he found out about my computer issues he gave me his iBook to use. When he found out about another issue he rectified that as well. As much of a mean ass he says he is, I never see it. I love him a lot, and the last almost six months have been really happy for me.

And now back to our regularly scheduled essay on gangs.

just to clarify

My hard drive is failing, and only allows me about three minutes after Windows starts to do anything before it shuts down automatically. With more school stuff due in the next week it looks like I won’t be graduating. The repair place is not able to recover any data because the drive doesn’t spin up half the time, and Gateway wants me to send in my laptop for a few weeks so they can change it out.

I have no idea what I am going to do. But it sure is funny how things end up.

The last transmission of the Jake

I am not sure if this message will reach you in time…

I have spent the last two hours looking at a “WARNING: Hard drive failure is imminent. Please back up your data and replace drive” warning…

After calling the manufacturer customer service I have determined that all attempts to resolve this peacefully have failed…

And that Byron with Gateway is a complete, uneducated, minimum wage monkey…

Literally…

I just finished my final project a few hours ago…

I hope this transmission makes it…

For all of our sakes.

Currently working on…

…my final project for Juvenile Delinquency. By the by, KnowGangs is an awesome resource for gang information. When I’m done with this final I’ll post more!

Nearly end of week updates

Thanks to the folks who have commented on my last post so far. The rest of you can lick donkey balls. But I guess not everyone checks RSS feeds of the blogs they read every day.

Sandro leaves for Peru again tomorrow and is going to be gone 2 weeks. Since I have worked all this week I will likely not see him before he leaves. We’ll probably do the standard video messaging thing again this time though.

Tonight is my Friday, but tomorrow at 4pm I have a staff meeting. Middle of my fucking night. But that’s part of the joy of being administrative staff I guess…you get to leave on time and the other guys have to get a couple hours of sleep before coming back.

Call for comments: What motivates you?

Specifically, and along the lines of my last post, when it comes to physical fitness.

What gets you out of bed and on the floor doing pushups? Home from work tired and hitting the gym? Wake up on a lazy Saturday and hit the pavement running?

What do you listen to when you run? When you lift? Realizing that many people who read my blog are gay (geez, take a look at my blogroll, would ya?), and that my taste in music is different than most of the gays, I’m trying to keep an open mind. If I find something that keeps me going, I’ll give credit where credit is due.

When you reach burnout, that is, your lungs feel like they are collapsing, your side like it has split open and internal organs are falling out, your muscles feel like they have hung up their “Out to lunch” sign and they’re just quitting, what keeps you going that extra time? I know the mind set (on paper) but I want to know since it’s different for everyone.

under armour leI think I would probably give a testicle to look like this guy tomorrow when I wake up. Definitely a toe or two, but maybe a testicle.
