At it again

School’s back. Bleh. At least this term I will be able to make it to the seminars. My classes are Criminal Law and Criminal Investigations. Now, the textbook for CI is about as big as the Bible, so I’m trying not to get freaked out by it.

Work has been going great. I cannot even begin to list all of the positive differences between this job and the last. Officer safety is paramount here, which is a huge step up. Liability is still a concern–as it should be–but they recognize that common sense and training has a large part to play in it. The technology is great (no more handwriting reports), and the application we use for all of our daily operations was built by one of our administrative sergeants, so it’s tailored to what we need and really enhances workflow. The laptops in the cars are attached to GPS and a map program which is great when you get a call and don’t know where it is (or where you are for that matter). Let me tell you, I understand why so many accidents happen: when you have to multitask between driving, radio calls, and the laptop it can get tense. But we all know that I am a superb driver!

Those are only the small things that pull it all together too. Out of everyone I work with, none of them seem the type that they don’t care to be there: they all enjoy it to some degree, no matter how stressful it gets. At the “old place,” it seemed to be nothing but people who hated being at work (for understandable reasons), and took it out on everyone else. They didn’t care what they did, as long as they met the absolute bare minimum asked of them. That’s generally not like me, so I’m glad I’ve found a job with coworkers I feel I can relate to more.
