What a sham

Been a week now since my last blog entry, and things are going just about the same. I got my insurance money, which means a car is not far off now. My roommate seems to love control, so he keeps the one mailbox key we have on his keychain and checks it whenever he wants to, or whenever he is expecting important mail, so the check sat in the mailbox for almost two weeks. It was post marked in April, I got it just the other night. But then again he’s also amazed when the cat shits in the litter box and it smells like shit. Must be why he knows I work nights, but doesn’t connect it to the fact that I sleep during the day. He should just give up movie directing now and go into Quantum Physics. He’s much more suited. But who am I to judge…sometimes on my nights off when I’m up all night I leave my room and open the door to the fridge, creating 2 decibals of noise. Fo shame, bizzle!

Work’s still going great. I’m diggin’ South Snohomish County. It’s quiet enough that I don’t pull what little hair I have out of my head, and busy enough that the night flies by. I’ve been making really good friends with another officer there. When someone flies to back you up, that’s friendship. We went bowling the other night at 1am and had just about a blast. Kenmore Lanes, minus the scuzzy clientele, coke-sniffing girl in the parking lot, and cook who looks like he belongs at a run down diner in the middle of the desert, is pretty fun.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand is coming out on the 26th, and should be really, really good. Of course I never get to see movies on the first day, and will probably end up going alone, it’ll still be fun. I love the X-Men universe. There have been many fan made trailers popping up lately that are equally good. Check them out. Also Fox aired a seven minute eXpose on the film, which is below.

Well, I was bored today and my eyes wandered over to the external CD-RW that my roommate gave me. He didn’t need it anymore, and I’m always a sucker for those things because you just never know when you’ll need one. Make a long story short, I took the external CD-RW, one of my old (80 GB) internal drives from my desktop and made an external USB hard drive. I took the CD-RW apart and replaced the CD drive with the IDE hard drive and there you go.

Having three days off is nice, I suppose, to those who do things on their days off. I can’t even keep my usual sleep schedule when I’m not at work. I keep telling myself I’m going to get back into the workout mode I was in last year when I was at it six days a week, but it takes a lot of motivation. Ah well, next week!

At it again

School’s back. Bleh. At least this term I will be able to make it to the seminars. My classes are Criminal Law and Criminal Investigations. Now, the textbook for CI is about as big as the Bible, so I’m trying not to get freaked out by it.

Work has been going great. I cannot even begin to list all of the positive differences between this job and the last. Officer safety is paramount here, which is a huge step up. Liability is still a concern–as it should be–but they recognize that common sense and training has a large part to play in it. The technology is great (no more handwriting reports), and the application we use for all of our daily operations was built by one of our administrative sergeants, so it’s tailored to what we need and really enhances workflow. The laptops in the cars are attached to GPS and a map program which is great when you get a call and don’t know where it is (or where you are for that matter). Let me tell you, I understand why so many accidents happen: when you have to multitask between driving, radio calls, and the laptop it can get tense. But we all know that I am a superb driver!

Those are only the small things that pull it all together too. Out of everyone I work with, none of them seem the type that they don’t care to be there: they all enjoy it to some degree, no matter how stressful it gets. At the “old place,” it seemed to be nothing but people who hated being at work (for understandable reasons), and took it out on everyone else. They didn’t care what they did, as long as they met the absolute bare minimum asked of them. That’s generally not like me, so I’m glad I’ve found a job with coworkers I feel I can relate to more.

Neglectfully Busy

Well last night was fun…the shift started well (30 minutes that is), then I had calls stacked up for the first half of it. “Someone threw something at my door!” “The TV next door is too loud!” “Burglar alarm at the tire repair shop with entry and interior motion!”

Towards the end, I’m feeling pretty good about going home (three nights off is great, but the first night back kicks my ass) and another officer’s car breaks down in BFE. Yes, Jake Taxi Service to the rescue! OT is cool though…another night in paradise.
What would you do if your 15 year old son has had the flu for about a month now and is complaining about blacking out (time skipping from 2nd period to 4th period with no memories in between, etc.)? Take him to the hospital? Wow, me too! Unfortunately, my aunt is so busy with getting back at her husband with extra-marital affairs for filing a divorce, she continually refuses to take my cousin to get medical attention. If I was there, and after he was taken care of, she would have the imprint of the butt of my .45 handgun on her face in ten different places.

That’s all for now!

X-Jake

School’s done for a few weeks, and my next classes sound a bit more interesting than the last. Well, at least one of them–Criminal Investigations–does.

In the meantime, I’m really itching to get out to the gun range. I will need to pass the handgun course again in the next month or two. While I’m confident I can pass it, I’m still getting to know my new gun and want to score high.

I’ve been reading a lot of issues of comics lately, namely the (pre-House of M, if you’re in the know) X titles.
